Jean-Pierre is the creator of the Obsidian skin care line, and owner of the two salons that bear her name Jean Pierre Aesthetics & Spa Inc. Her clientele includes spot personalities and celebrities including Diane Carrol, Damon Stoudamire of the Portland Blazers, Toronto Argonaut Don Johnson, and Augie Shellenberg from Free Willy. Jamaican-born entrepreneur is a former nurse, who graduated with a degree in Nursing and a certificate in Midwifery in England. During her 15 years abroad, she travelled to Germany, France and Switzerland to observe health and beauty care on an international level. When she immigrated to Canada in 1977, she completed a three-year degree program in Aesthetics at Seneca College.
In 1993, Jean left her full-time career as a Registered Nurse to open a small aesthetics salon on York University campus. Within two years, her growing list of clients inspired her to rent a larger space on Charles Street East in downtown Toronto. Her business continued to expand to two locations.
Jean Pierre appeared on CityTV, CFTO, CBC, WTN, CHCH TV, as well in Publications like Share, Pride, The Toronto Star, Toronto Life, WOMAN, The Toronto Sun, IBM Insight, Essence and Skin Inc. Over the last ten years, she has been honoured with several awards, including entrepreneur of the year by the Caribbean and African Chamber of Commerce (1998), The Harry Jerome Award for Excellence in Business (1997) and Toronto Sun's Women on the Move Award (1988).
Within the black community, Jean frequently acts as advisor, educator, and lecturer. She serves as a mentor for the Youth Entrepreneurship Training Assistance program for the Canadian Centre on Minority affairs. Jean Pierre speaks on the industry trends, hosts workshops on skin care, and advises local beauty pageants participants on skin care and make-up application. She sits on the Advisory committee at Sheridan College for aesthetics Training and is a regular guest for the North York and Toronto Board of Education.
On an international level, Jean Pierre speaks on skin care, marketing, and succeeding in business. You can also find her as an Honoured Professional in the National Register's Who's Who in executives and professionals, 200 edition, Washington D.C.
